Legislators say they’re encouraged about the fate of the 911th Airlift Wing after Air Force Secretary Michael Donley on Thursday visited the base, which is scheduled to close due to budget cutbacks at the Pentagon.

A joint statement by the region’s congressional delegation said Donley’s visit was a follow-up to meetings and potential legislation in the wake of the Air Force’s decision to shutter the base. The closure would leave 300 civilian employees without work and more than 1,200 or so reservists…
